How free are we really? Society demands certain amounts of conformity from each of us, we have to work (sometimes jobs we hate) to pay our way in life and we are wracked with guilt and worry alot of the time. A short exploration of freedom.
Freedom
Freedom is an illusion,
A state laced with confusion.
We are free in the physical sense,
We need not suffer an intrusion.
But what of our minds,
What of the souls,
How can we be free,
Lost in this conformity.
Our role in society is an identity,
A choice we made for simplicity,
But in the deepest pits of our being,
We long for tranquillity.
Spiritual balance, tolerance and acceptance.
They tell me I work now for a better tomorrow.
But what if I don’t see a tomorrow is my work in vain?
Am I left licking my wounds, trying to dull this pain?
Why can I not have a better today,
Enjoy in this moment, this time,
Without the guilt, the shame,
Always trying to place blame.
We prepare ourselves against the uncertainty of time,
Instead of embracing the unknown we shield ourselves from it,
We fear what we cannot explain.
As people, we never can just be.
To look and see the world for its beauty.
We see with unimpressed eyes.
The joyous vision of our youth taken from us,
We are denied serenity. Forced to do.
The futility of our worry and stress evident in our own fragility.
