Roses and thorns: A poem about how life can be

My father told me this story when I was a kid. I don't where he took it from but I really liked. That's why as a teenager I wrote a poem (in spanish) and now I've translated that poem so you can enjoy the words and think about the message. I hope you like it

Roses and thorns

For a long and desolate path
next to a rosebush, between the woods
a walker stopped his walk
there were something catching his look.

A bunch of roses, as red as blood
made them say aloud with anger:
"what my eyes see, believe can not
fate is a cruel, unfair stranger...

... how can it be possible, oh Lord
that something as beautiful as a rose
being so marvelous, so pure
has to live between the thorns? ...

... who would pick them up then
avoiding thorns cut up his hands?
who would enjoy its beauty and its smell?
with all those thorns, then who would dare?...

... life is really unfair, unkind
when there are such beautiful things
as these roses, then sad we find
thorns surround the light they bring"

And another man also passed by
as our hero did just right before
he looked at him with a big smile
and smelling the roses said these words:

"See how precious life can be
see how beautiful this world
my, oh my, there's God indeed
there are roses between the thorns."

Nothing in life is good or bad
It all depends on how you look at things
you decide being happy or sad
and that's exactly what life will bring.
