I love too much.
Care more than I should.
Too deep, I know.
That is the way, the way I dream.
So, just for the day, I'll be Irish and dream that I wake up and
That your hand is still in mine.
And that you still love me, you love me, you love me
Still the same"
The fortune of the Irish will be with you.
One green shamrock is but few,
But very soon it will be joined by some others too.
Emerald green shines through,
Just as much as your luck grew. source
This is a classic Irish dish that is perfect for feeding a group of people.
With the distinctive flavor of Guinness, it makes a good alternative to Irish stew. source
2.25 lb/1kg of stewing beef (shin, flank or rib),
trimmed and cut into 1in/2.5 cm cubes
1oz/25g flour
1 onion, peeled and sliced
2 carrots, sliced thickly
1 large or 2 small parsnips, peeled and cubed
1 pint/600ml Guinness, or beef stock
Quarter bottle/225ml prune juice or to taste (optional)
Bouquet garni or mixed herbs
Half celeriac or 3-4 stalks celery, trimmed and cubed
Half an orange, left whole (optional)
Season the beef and toss in the flour to coat. Heat a little oil and butter in a heavy pan and brown the meat in batches, then transfer to a casserole dish. Add the onions and other vegetables, and sweat gently for a few minutes in the same pan.
Transfer to the casserole dish. Add any remaining flour to the pan, stir to absorb whatever fat is left, then cook for a minute before stirring in the Guinness (or stock and prune juice if using). Add the liquids to the casserole (enough to cover the main ingredients) as well as the bouquet garni or mixed herbs and the orange. Season, stir to mix well, cover, and cook in the oven for about 2 hours, or until the beef is tender. Remove the orange and bouquet garni, check seasoning, and add two prunes soaked in Guinness (optional). Serve with mashed potatoes and garnish with chopped parsley.
May you never want for more.
May Irish angels rest their wings right beside your door.”
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
I have heard that the early bird gets the ale or some such. Nothing wrong with being on top of things, it gives us slackers a heads up. I didnt go out to get my corned beef. Ben and I do love it, I am just such a shut in any more, not sure if its on the agenda for today. Recipe sure does sound nice!
The early bird GOT the ale! You are right! Well, you can always celebrate it after your shopping day. I cannot believe you didn't go to the store today! That is what the heads up was for!
Tsk. Tsk. I hope you get to make it maybe Friday. You know. Lent and all. :))
Looks like someone is really excited about the holiday, right? :) Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I love holidays and it doesn't hurt to be on top of it when you put out a recipe! :)) If I waited for the day, it would be too late!
Happy St Patty;s day!
