each and every one,
are broken,
they are
broken beautifully,
from their shards,
exacting sharp shadows,
to the ugliness
of this world.
they give to us
are even more valuable
than what they
wish to steal away?
you stare into a sky
you’ve never seen before
reverberate within you
for the rest of your life
and change you...
now and forever.

Love it, and every word is so true, love to read it...
I love the idea, @ericvancewalton, of being 'broken beautifully'. Thank you, for developing it and reminding us of the power of having our hearts broken, open, with tenderness and compassion.
So many echoes of this life-sustaining idea from different disciplines --- spirituality, psychology, and literature. Here' a few:
"I was given a thorn in my flesh... to torment me. / Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. / But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. ”
'The wound is the place where the Light enters you.' -Rumi
'Only the wounded physician heals.' -Jung
'There is a crack in everything / that's how the light gets in.'
Even yours truly has written a little ditty on this subject:
"I've been lavishly gifted a pain
as thick and rich as oil paint
By pushing it round the page
I've learned to make Art."
The power of words and how they dance from one's pen. An upvote and a follow from me.
what a talent you are, its comming from very deep within you, thats for sure!
The last two stanza; highpoint for me

Good post
You did well by adding more meaning to the poem bigger than what the stanzas say, your simple use of short verses are amazing
Thank you, @josediccus! I wrote this on the plane trip to NYC yesterday. For some reason the solitude of those flights always sparks a creative flow.

thank you ....@ericvancewalton
Just keep writing Sir you have a good aspects and thinking in life
"Could it be the things they give to us are even more valuable than what they wish to steal away?"
This is beautiful! It's so counterintuitive to look for what you might gain from letting go of something you're afraid to lose.
"Ponder this, as you stare into a sky you’ve never seen before"
And this is the secret to unlocking those gains. The sky you've never seen before is the one you gaze upon with fresh eyes. Fresh eyes see past the loss and broken ugliness, and give us a glimpse of a future that is whole again. And that future is something worth pondering, even if we can't see it yet.
Followed!

Have you published books of your poetry? I'll probably answer my own question by looking that up, but if you do, and if you have any in physical form that you would be willing to sell, what would you say to my purchasing a signed copy?
