I Feel Like Andy Dufresne (An Original Poem)

in #poetry8 years ago (edited)

Losses loom so much
larger than gains,
I feel like Andy Dufresne
in these auspicious hours

legs bounce,
eyes twitch,
palms itch
as this clock ticks

but, soon, will
come the day
when we hear
the internal music
instead of outside noise

I can feel it
so deep down
in my bones that
I’ve already packed
my bug out bag,
stuffed full of dreams

My spirit has been caged...
existed in fear, surrounded by rage,
each day reborn just the same,
I feel like Andy Dufresne

It’s been a long road,
there’s been so much to unlearn
and treacherous bridges to burn
but here we stand on the precipice,
the pivot point where our fortunes shift
for the rest of our days
all we’ll taste is freedom,
I feel like Andy Dufresne.

Welcome Dear my pleasure.

Ah man, great poem. Super cool idea too.

Thanks, this is my favorite film of all time.

Andy Dufresne...... went through a river of **** and came out clean. It is a great movie. I've probably seen it ten times.

I've seen it nearly as many times. The script is pure genius.

rs and upvote for you....

lovely

Thank you! I have a messenger bag I take to work every day...tucked in an inside pocket is my passport. It comforts me in some small way to know that, if I want to, I could go to the airport, buy a ticket, and be gone.

Hilarious! What happened to the Dufresnes? Lol.

Nice poem my friend.
Did you see the latest steemit news?
Steem token on jaxx and wish for prosperity for all who are seeking

Thank you! Yes, I did see the news! It's great news for our platform and currency!

Yes, so much happening.

Good to hear! I'm going to be in Montreal Sept 7-10th. Just booked the flight and the Airbnb in Old Port.

Maybe I'll take a drive out there. :)

It'd be great to meet you, man!

Who else is making the trip?

Amazing poem.

Here's to the road, to the point where fortunes shift and to freedom!

Thank you, @the-alien! Amen, to freedom! Sorry I haven't reached out, I will as soon as I get home from my trip. Hope all is well.

Yeah don't worry, whenever you're up to it :) Enjoy the holidays, that also deserves our full attention you know, travel can refresh your energy and clear your mind, so I hope you're having a great time!

Thank you! It's been a relaxing trip and great to reconnect with family and the past. How's that novel coming along?

I'm still re-shaping it, still some work to be done.

I'm glad it was relaxing and connecting, we all need that from time to time.

Is this your first? The reshaping is the fun part.

Thanks, It's been way too long since I've been back.

Yeah my first. :)

I think that's great that you've been back to see family and reconnect with old memories, I hope there's some post about that some day :)

Love this reference to such a classic film. Thanks for sharing, Eric!

It's my favorite film of all time. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!

Magnificent. As always I am in awe with how you can say so much with so few words.
Do you know it wasn't until steemit that I even realized how much I love poetry? I believe it has a lot to do with the enlightened people writing it, I love how it inspires deeper thoughts and insights. Thank you for gifting the world with it :)

Though poetry continues to allude me, I've recently found a new artistic ability...or at least a new creative endeavor that I thoroughly enjoy, and it also speaks with few (or no really) words.

My husband is ordering a camera for me since I've been using an app on the phone and he's very big on using quality tools :)

Thanks, @dreemit! Your photos are stunning, very nice work! I happen to have an early 80's Nikon 35mm SLR for sale. I have a telephoto lens, filters, and everything for it. It's totally manual though.

As much as I love the old style cameras, I think they would be a little too much work for what I'm doing right now. And I'm just getting into this, I won't even know what the significance of different brands are for awhile yet :) Howie already ordered a cute little digital canon powershot that had some great reviews, I'll be starting there it seems. I'm just excited about being able to take picture after picture without the lag :)

Love your poems, and this one feels very alive.

Thank you! The creative spigot is flowing. I have three poems in the works.

awesome, looking forward!
