Missing Pieces (An Original Poem)

in #poetrylast year (edited)

As we move
through the world
sometimes it’s hard
to notice all the scars,

But when the light is low,
in the quiet hours
we can feel the rawness
of their rough edges,

Each of our conquests,
clever marriages,
cunning compromises,
each lie, especially the
ones we tell ourselves,
they all come with a price,

When we make
ourselves small to
bring comfort to others
we give away
little pieces of ourselves
and a metamorphosis
happens, ever so slowly,
time and time again.

Freeing yourself from
the crushing gravity
that holds your heart
in that unvirtuous circle,
it takes courage,
and it takes time,

The voices,
they will whisper,
then they’ll whine
but know that the doubts
that nag you will quiet in time
and you will, again
find your missing pieces.
Just know, you are worthy,
by God, you are
so damned worthy.

I wish you and your families a wonderful Christmas!

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. As we approach the end of a new year, we are tempted to make a kind of inventory of things to do and things done. Looking back, we can see how far we have come, but also how much we have changed. Fortunately, we have freed ourselves from the weight that can be toxic relationships, unwanted jobs, and exhausting routines. Freeing ourselves from that leaves us lighter, more confident, even if we have scars, even if we have left pieces of ourselves behind.
Yesterday, December 20, I had my birthday and a friend made me a video with old photos. I saw myself and I didn't recognize myself. Although in essence I am still the same flower-eating dreamer, the cracks I carry in my soul, like the bark of a tree, speak of sadness, grief, but also of maturity. I suppose that when we die, if we reach the other side intact, we are returned because living leaves cracks, fissures, changes.
Today is the spirit of Christmas and I want to wish you health, tranquility, travel, money and especially, lots of love. Receive a big hug from this Venezuelan who appreciates you. Hugs, Eric

Happy belated birthday to you my friend! I hope you enjoyed your day. Life is such a journey isn't it?! I feel like, at least on some level, our development is never really completed but there's this inner core in each person that's already absolutely perfect. Life has been a bit of a challenge the second half of this year. I'm hoping 2024 brings better things, tough times never last long. Thank you for your wishes! I echo the same back to you. Merry Christmas!

What a powerful poem just in time for Christmas ❤️ So beautiful. And it touches and triggers something so deeply ingrained in us: worthiness. We try to be liked not to be pushed out of the herd and thus we slowly dim our inner light, that very spark that makes us so unique and so very lovable.

Eric, I love the GIF you used. Reminds me of Dr. Joe Dispenza's breath exercise, where you draw spinal fluid up to your pineal gland 😉

Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄and a joyous festive season with your loved ones.

Thank you, Kris, I appreciate it! I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

I think we should also free ourself from the things that take us backward around us.

For sure! In each of those things there is a lesson.

Quite a powerful poem. Nobody actually noticed what we are facing or passing through. So many scars that people did not noticed but at the end of the day, those scars just made us stronger

How are you dear friend @ericvancewalton good afternoon
What a beautiful composition, it invites deep reflection, it is true that the lies that mark and hurt the most are the ones we tell ourselves.
Merry Christmas dear friend, may it come to you full of hope, happiness and love

Hello my friend! Thank you and I wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas!

This is my favorite out of all of the poems you have published on this platform. I feel as though it speaks straight into my soul. Furthermore, I believe it will speak to the souls so very many people on the planet. The words are at once acknowledging, inspiring and healing.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I haven't had much time for writing lately and I always worry that I'm losing my edge when that happens so your words mean a lot! Thanks, Tamara, and Merry Christmas to you.

Your edge is as sharp as ever! Merry Christmas to you and the family!!

I guess thirty+ years of sharpening accounts for something. ; ) Thank you!

I think we could all embrace that message today. Some more than others, of course. Good words.

Beautiful poetry about life. Everything is clearly depicted in every word. Have a nice day, Eric..

Thank you, Eliana! I hope you've had a great week.

Well done.

I know this isn't a renga, but here's my waki in response:

Amidst life's whirlwind,
Lost pieces find their way home.

Edit: Feel free to share your poems to the Blockchain Poets community (which I manage)

Thank you! Lost pieces find their way home... I love that line. It has a ring to it! Thank you for the invite. I'll be sure to share future poems there.

Invoking feelings from deep within, sorting them out then letting go, hopefully we do learn along the path of life's awakening.

Thank you Joan!

Summer Solstice today, perhaps somethings do change!

More light each day now! 😊

We hit the really hot months now to end March before reprieve !LOLZ

I like the lines: clever marriages and cunning compromises. Good stuff as always!

Thanks, @bozz!

Each poem has a deep powerful message just like this one.
It is important to free ourselves from the heavy things that weigh us down.
Your book, Mindful moment sounds like it's gonna be interesting.

Thanks! Mindful Moments has been available for a couple of years now on Amazon.

These words are really words of wisdom that are touching and I appreciate you sharing today.

I admire those who write poetry. Good poetry, besides denoting the sensitivity of the writer, is usually loaded with dense wisdom.

Your poetry shows both facets or the two sides of the same coin.

Have a fabulous Christmas season.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Merry Christmas!

Someone needed to read this. That's the beautiful thing about this poem. It sent a message to a lot more people than you would know. Bookmarked to read this every day. Thank you, Eric.🌺

I hope it reached whoever needed to read it. Thank you!

Powerful poem here
Truly there are some times we make ourselves low so that we can just make people happy but at the end of the day, it seems our effort is not appreciated

wonderful written poem and you walked about the different stages/phases of our life in it @ericvancewalton

Very good poetry, for today I wish you a good afternoon and wish you the best always.

There are some things in a person's life, a person feels a lot of fear, but a person has to do all those things, and from there, a person gets courage and then he faces all the difficulties that come in his life. Can do and after that it starts a good and easy life.

Sharing on Twitter.

Your words hits differently, I'm going to share this and hope that more people will be fortunate enough to read it.
