I needed to look up the meaning of maimed.
Even before that I asked myself what is the message of your poem? What image do you want us to see? What emotions to stir?
Or was I overthinking it and the gist of it is just to be?
Anyways, is there hope in the end, even for maimed?

Thank you, Ervin. I think the overall message is to love and take care of those and that which takes care of us. But there may be other meanings only our subconscious understands. I work in metaphor; so each of us will intepret the meaning differently. What is your interpretation?

Turning time back, when I started reading it I also started looking for a pattern. I got an impression that lines in stanzas are aligned, that there are parallel stories converging and amplifying the message.

Love and care for your offspring, yes. But still there is pain and loss and trying to gap the chasm and maybe not being able to do it.
