Welcome to #poetrynight with @famouzqueen..Being a poet and a lover of poem, i enjoy writing and also reading poems almost every night before going to bed. This has really helped me a lot, reading nice and lovely poem after a long day before going to bed helps you do away with thoughts and most things that would make you have sleepless night.
Poetry and its purpose
A lot of us might not really understand the purpose and why we do poetry. The main purpose of poetry for most of human existence has been to enable the passing of stories between generations, so in its essence, poetry is a historical instrument. ... It is much more difficult to remember and recite a story when it is written in prose, and that's where songs, and poetry come into play.
So i'll be here every night to give you nice and lovely poems. So if you're a lover of poetry like myself please come join me lets have more fun on steemit.
Our poem for the night
GREAT, WONDERFUL WORLD.
EARTH'S MOTION.
GREAT, WONDERFUL WORLD
source
Great, wide, beautiful, wonderful world,
With the wonderful water round you curled,
And the wonderful grass on your breast-
World, you are beautifully dressed.
Ah, you are so great, and i am so small,
I tremble to think of you, World, at all;
And yet, when i said my prayers to-day,
A whisper inside me seemed to say,
' You are more than the earth, though you are such a dot :
You can love and think, and the Earth can not !
W.B. RANDS.
One of the wonderful things about the world is the way that the earth itself spins round every day and travels round the sun every year.
EARTH'S MOTION
When we are going in a train
At sixty miles an hour,
We marvel at the mighty speed,
And at the engine's power.
But Earth is moving faster far,
Just like a spinning top,
All through the day, all through the night,
Without a single stop.
And as she turns herself about,
She circles round the sun
At sixty thousand miles an hour,
Her journey never done.
Only so softly does she turn,
Without a jolt or spill,
It took a clever man to find
She wasn't standing still.
E. L. M. KING
The 'clever man' who found that the earth doesn't stand still was Galileo, an Italian (1564-1642), who proved the truth of what had already been thought by Copernicus, a German (1473-1543).
