Sunrise is my only English poem so far. Back in the 90’s I wrote a lot of German poems and even one in French. Those were published in a book and I will post many of them in the weeks to come. I never intentionally sat down or tried hard to write them. They just sorta popped into my head and I stopped what I was doing and wrote them down with little editing needed afterwards. The one French poem took me a little longer to find words that rhymed. After I moved to the US to go to college I wrote one poem in English. After that, life got a bit more stressful and I never completed another poem. I have many bits and pieces written down and thoughts an ideas, but nothing complete. Maybe someday when things slow down again I will resume writing poetry. It will definitely be in English though because my brain has completely switched over to thinking and working in English.
So to make a long story short (it’s really too long of a story for this post), I wrote this poem after meeting my wife. I will do an introduce-myself post at a later time. For now, enjoy the poem and leave a comment if you write poetry too or if you just like it.
Sunrise
by Daniel Garber
the wind has brought me here
so I believe -
traveled from far away
on a warm and gentle breeze
then, as dawn approached
a magic force lured me outside
and what I witnessed
how would it change my life
the sun was rising
but not like every other day
that very special sunrise
just swept my heart away
disseminating such warmth
like ambers aglow
a spectacular blaze
that could melt ice and snow
a light show in the eastern sky
filled with sparkling gleam -
though I'm awake I hope
that it wasn't just a dream
