Hey, so long it speaks to you, and you can imprint your own images on the piece, that's quite high praise for a piece of poetry!
The reason an eagle really didn't work in my mind's eye is because an eagle mostly soars, rather than fly, and it's less of a bird of prey, more of a carrion eater. But I'm glad the piece spoke to your own internal imagery :)
