Freedom!

They arrived on the coast of Benin
We were blacks before they came,
Their mission was to sway us of our luxuries
Indirectly, we barter our culture for civilization,
Merchants bought us for a worth, and we became a slave in a trade

When we were in the belly of fish
We turned praise to freedom songs
And we started enchanting it
The wall of our captivity fell like the wall in Jericho
Oh, verily we can sing about our freedom & walk in the freedom park

The freedom is here, but shattered
Our political monsters fed us with lies
Our nation is dwindling in poverty
Despite the boom in oil
We're a third world country despite the civilization
Maybe we should not have asked for the freedom.

Nice poem. i agree with the fact that they feed us with lies and all but the truth be told we are the problem. There is always going to be forces, cabals etc from the developed country trying to make us dependent on them because we are making them richer but countries can break this chains, Singapore for example did it, they don't have 15% of our resources, it was not an easy job for them but they did it and believe me the world power countries in which they depended on for importations fought them during there process of transformation. The ugly truth is just that our attitude, beliefs, ethnicity and greed is just too alarming.

very nice and creatively done poem!
