This piece is so much hard work/ quality that needs more reward. How did I even miss it? Dang, too many posts to wade through. Your title reminds me of a quote from Wole Soyinka's book

The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.

The Man Died (New York: Harper & Row, 1972) p. 13.

Interesting piece indeed.
