A king struggling to rule over my own mind
This poem was inspired by an incident that took place at a difficult time in my life. It was more of a moment of epiphany I experienced when I was looking at a tree in the park one day.
The inverse of bad times.
The tables have turned, fortune dealt new cards.
In verse and rhymes,
I share what I learned, and hopefully touch hearts.
I stroll back to a certain place.
Revisiting a not so distant past.
Take a look at the beauty you cast.
Do you remember me, tree?
I sat under you one day,
When nothing went my way.
Pain choked my heart,
As I poked your trunk.
When I wished I was as grounded as you.
Was as calm and focused as you.
When I was looking for an answer to my question:
What will I do with my life?
And you told me to live it.
Remember the heartbreaking details I mentioned?
How you became the journal;
The basin for the tears that flowed.
The target for my furious vents.
You became a welcome visitor
Into my lonely place.
When no one understood me
And some had just fooled me.
Remember when I said that I was a king,
Struggling to rule my own mind.
You said there was a thing
Called leaving the past behind.
And holding your mind captive,
Before losing it.
I took your advice
And lived my life.
I didn't even think twice;
I made it my wife.
Now I'm back here to thank you,
For inspiring me.
I don't know what I would have done without you.
