A BREAKING HEART

It loomed in the distance gathering form,
Drawing nigh with every act and word.
All inevitable in every sense and feeling
The morbid tension of a breaking heart.

Ah! But why? Why now?
Why dost the heart have to bleed once again?
For what cause does it weep a fourth time?
Why dost this charade repeat itself?

Just this once can't it be right?

No! Alas! The deed is done
Oh! How it hurts the broken pair
Tears flow in little streams of water and salt
Eyes all red and heart stoned cold.

Say, how long shall this pain linger?
Say how long shall this unsettling moment last?
Oh! I wish, how I just wish,
That time like water could come and go.
