Silent, Obdurate Winter

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

As winter wears on
The soul becomes disconsolate,
The cold obstinate,
The nights monotonous

The ragged snow
Is slow to go
Lingers in shadows
Where the sun seldom goes

Winter has been
More bitter this year
The winds more biting
The fire more inviting

The Moon barely glows
Through the blue blur of snow
And the paths choked
Where I usually go

But sometimes at night
My mind takes flight
Glides away without a word
Like the silent flight of a lone snowbird

"Obdurate"

You're such a word geek. I love it. Perfect word for it, as I am still building fires for warmth on the 26th of March.

Hey, Cristof! How have you been? Yes, I just had the fireplace going last night when I wrote that poem - but I'm longing for spring and hope we just don't jump into summer :)

The Moon barely glows
Through the blue blur of snow
And the paths choked
Where I usually go

A write any Canadian can relate with. Some wonderful penning you offered up tonight:)

ha ha, you're right - familiar images like the Group of Seven, only in words, lol

The ragged snow
Is slow to go
Lingers in shadows
Where the sun seldom goes

As abstinate as the snow is, those are welcoming words. May your spring come swiftly, John.

Amen and amen!

@johngeddes very beautiful poetry your post.
This replay poetry.
"Winter approaches,
The first snow reached the corner of the window
the granules continue to fall too, rolling
accumulate in the walls of the heart
Frosty morning show images on the glass
dew carve trees and flowers "

thank you
