Each night grumbling
In the cold
Lumbering around the bends
Shuddering against my wall
Turning things upside down
Rousing the dog
While train whistles moan.
On the other street
It’s a different world.
Coyotes howl
On the path
Where they make their rounds
Down to the woods
And creek beyond
There, they spend the night
On the prowl.
And each night I’m torn
To heed the call of the train
And ride the rails west,
Or track with coyotes
In their nightly quest.
My mind can do both
So I end up torn
Riding through Rockies
In the west
And frolicking with coyotes
In the woods.
Who can say
Which one is best…
My heart hasn’t decided yet.
I think perhaps a little bit of both is best:) Great work, John:)
I agree...thanks, Pryde :)

Ah, how I know that feeling! :O

something about a train :)
Caught between two worlds - the walk of every believer.
that is so true :)
John has loved this poetry in which you build man's best friend. And the dog looks so sweet and friendly sitting in the train carriage looking tenderly at its owner. Thanks for sharing these moments. Best regards
ha ha, it's actually a coyote from the poem, Felix - since I couldn't decide between the coyotes and the train I chose both
