This poem has such a quirky and cute feel to it. It fits perfectly with the new Spring weather we are finally starting to feel.
From the first line, "there are so many tictoc clocks everywhere telling people what toctic time it is for tictic instance five toc minutes toc past six tic" it makes you think of the silly nursery rhymes we all heard as kids. In this poem, he uses his play on words to make it a goofy, yet eye opening poem.
For those who can read between the lines, he is saying Spring comes and goes like the hands of time. You can't control when it comes and you can't for-see when it's time to go. E.E. Cummings has a way with each poem he writes, you know his distinct voice and style.
Enjoy :)
Poem is called, 9.
E. E. Cummings, 1894 - 1962
there are so many tictoc
clocks everywhere telling people
what toctic time it is for
tictic instance five toc minutes toc
past six tic
Spring is not regulated and does
not get out of order nor do
its hands a little jerking move
over numbers slowly
we do not
wind it up it has no weights
springs wheels inside of
its slender self no indeed dear
nothing of the kind.
(So,when kiss Spring comes
we’ll kiss each kiss other on kiss the kiss
lips because tic clocks toc don’t make
a toctic difference
to kisskiss you and to
kiss me)
This is a lovely and beautiful composition. I love your piece.
