Where the Ocean meets Skin | NaPoWriMo Day 11

in #poetry7 years ago

Class beings.
Outside, at the beach,
waves crash against the shore
in pace with our teacher:
"Breath in. Hands up.
Breathe out. Hands down."

We breathe in and out,
hands going up and down,
till the ocean meets our skin
so by the time we lay down,
our sweat paints our anatomy
on the hot stone ground.

Only for it to disappear seconds later,
leaving no trace of our bones,
ships that sailed away into the sea,
their ghosts swallowed up by the setting sun.

Class finishes.
We touch the ground that held our bodies
and bring the light of the lamp to our eyes.
The next batch of students take our places
and we leave for home
as the moon replaces the sun in the sky.

About the Poem

On any other day I wouldn't have put up this poem or shared it in this state, but desperate times call for desperate measures and I realised it's much better to have written something, than having written nothing at all. I found no inspiration in anything today, and even staring at my book for long periods of time didn't work. I also didn't have my candles and incense, so maybe that did something haha. But I did go for Kalari payatu class (a martial art form from Kerala) so I used that to put something words down, at least.

I plan on working on this more, (or changing it completely – let's see how it goes) and I'll share the edited version in the same post below.

If you did, thanks for reading, even and especially when I'm not happy with my own work.
