The American Dream. (Original poetry)

in #poetry7 years ago

Growing up in a fairytale,
Your friends will surely burn in hell.
You see they just don't think like you,
You call it green, they call it blue,
Casting stones behind broken glass,
Your sins the same, but you'll call it class.

Families ripped apart by court,
Breeding hate, just to extort,
Kids being taught that the bully is wrong,
But singing hatred in every song.

You can stand up to them
But don't stand up to me,
I can treat you like this,
It's our family tree.

Orphans at the hands of a drug
These kids just wanted a parents hug,
Alone out wandering in the street,
Selling teddy bears for food to eat,

Communication makes no sense,
Politics even make dinner tense,
This one is wrong and this one is right,
They're all the same, but yet we fight.

Women waging war on men,
I'm curious, do you see the end?
Battle lines are drawn with ease,
Humans who no longer please.

Technology ruling in every way,
Did you ask your child, how was their day?
Did you learn something new, did you have any fun?
Or do we only ask when they hide from a gun?

We are so glued to the lies we're told,
You'll be cast aside if you are bold.
You must have this, you must have that,
You're the wrong color, you wear the wrong hat.

Emotions are wrong, they show that you're weak.
Keep them inside until I tell you to speak.

The media feeding us stories of war,
But what is all the fighting for?
It doesn't take much to see nobody win,
The downfall of America
It comes from within.
