Good evening fellow steemits, while I hope alot of you around the world today enjoyed tucking into haggis, neeps and tatties and toasting a dram of whisky to celebrate the birth of Scotlands most famous and greatest poet and lyricist of all time I thought you might like to no some interesting facts about Burns himself and some of his most famous work

-there are more statues worldwide dedicated to Rabbie Burns than any other non-religious figure after Queen Victoria and Christoper Columbus
-Burns was a father to 13 children by 4 different woman
-His youngest child, son Maxwell, was born on the day of his funeral and obviously never met him
-"Auld Lang Syne" is sang by millions across the world on hogmany(new years eve) and along with happy birthday is the most frequently sung song in the english language
-"Scots Wha Hae" has served as an unofficial national anthem for Scotland
-He is the first person to feature on a commemorative bottle of coca cola
-One of americas most famous presidents Abraham Lincoln could recite Burns work by heart
-Burns tragically died at th age of 37 thought to be through a blood infection caused by a tooth extraction
-The first ever burns night was held on the anniversary of his death rather than on his actual birthday when we celebrate it now
-The greatest Scot of all time was born in the Alloway south of Ayr, Scotland
-He was mainly educated by his father William who was also a self educated farmer
