we've all heard it's not fair
but all she ever knew
was loneliness and despair
she fought to survive
searching for the breath
that would keep her alive
children can be mean
and being slightly different
was all they would need
with her classmates
the prom --
she never saw
the pain she held inside
grew into a habit
replacing all her pride
dreading every day
screaming in the silence
another damn cliche
when she should have learned to play
just praying for some peace
a chance to fade away
isn't worst than the last
a way to escape
the emptiness of her past
wanting out of this life
kneeling in the darkness
reaching for a knife
sat there as it bled
I guess -- she finally figured
she'd be.., better off dead
