I ran
down the mountain

across fields
of corn and beans

to the edge
of the continent,

over bodies
of water;

the   space
between us

is vast.

I
do not know
where you dwell.

I like how the 'I' in the last stanza gets its own line - highlighting, perhaps, the duality in the search. For some part of yourself, or for some other, how they could in fact be one and the same. Intricately structured for the rhythm, and as @jpartridge81 says, the minimalism contrasts the scope so well. I can't help myself, you know I'm a fan of these stripped back writes :)

Sometimes I light a white candle and ask the muse to move through, it is like automatic poetry in a way. ha. Not sure if others feel this way, or experience this? I experience this with all the things I do in the realm of creativity, as if I'm just the vessel/avatar.

That's awesome, very Edgar Allen Poe, haha. I don't do it intentionally, but sometimes poems just fall out of me in a way that makes it feel as if I'm being guided, somehow. I'll write more in ten minutes than I would usually after two hours of intense focus. I think it's something that comes with practice - your mind already knows which paths to take, it's just a matter of stepping back and letting it all happen!

Indeed. There is a magical vibe when it just flows. One of the reasons I do so many forms of art is because I need to bounce around in order to stay focused, if that makes sense...

Ask and you shall receive.
Be careful what you wish for.
But how did you choose beans?

Because soybeans (which is the kind I had in mind) are as common as corn and seemed relatable in a way.

Thanks :) I’ve not much experience with pre-picked beans or stalked beans.

There is a mysterious duality behind the words, I like the large scale feeling and scope with a minimal poetic approach. Personally, this is also my most favourite piece of art, and it makes my day so special just to see it on display with your writing.

Why is this painting your fave, JP? I never knew that. I am thinking it must be because I painted it in the same class as you? I really love it as it is encaustic, as you know. I love working in wax.

Thank you dearest, JP

I just remember seeing it beside my painting in the library of our college as a part of the student show, and telling my grandma about you and our class... I never knew it was encaustic, I always loved the effect on the gessoboard surface, the thick layered strokes and also the transparency of color are like storm clouds on Jupiter, a nude and portrait all within a still-life study. I was so proud to have my little seashell painting hang beside it, I can still see it in my mind there together along the wall. <3

Distant, vast poem. Like map depicting geography of intimate, intertwine spaces.

Yes, you peered through to the core. :)

Thank you.
