Indomynium

Pester me not with rhyme and verse--
for these I have no time,
But give me the fields and the seas beyond
where no dictum can me begrime.

Lead me not on flights of fancy
from which there's no return,
But settle me in the grasses and coves
where thoughts there I may churn.

Beguile me not with precepts and wisdom
for which I've never been keen,
But give me space to make my mistakes
and my own philosophy wean.

For if a man will be a man
for all the things he's learned.
then trial must be servant teacher,
not things from others discerned.

And yet should I land square on my feet
in a field oft trod and firm,
Let no vain poet besmirch my youth
for fashion forsook as short term.

Rational thought can be just as sound
when derived from God's creation,
As any warbling of simpleton man
on theories that lead to damnation.

Beautiful poetry, thank you for this! I resonate with many of the subtle meanings presented within.

Thanks so much! I appreciate your kind words. Glad it touched you.

begrime? wonderful poem but you might wanna start including a dictionary when you write stuff sir! lol. I absolutely love the last paragraph, so true powerful and true! -jonboy

I was an English teacher in a past life, Jon. So I do tend to wax a bit "poetic" at times...lol...
