"UGLY" {Poem #2 for Poetry Fridays}

in #poetry8 years ago

Why do I feel so ugly?
So broken, so hideous, so
unworthy
of the only beauty
our Mother Earth's one love?

I'm no different from the rest
those other creatures that walk around on two legs
and fake smiles, built on
crippling bank accounts
and hefty bar tabs.

I'm no worse than the other
globs of cellulite and mistrust
parading their shameful existence
for all the streets to witness,
while I hide
in my knowing
of our nasty broken hearts
covered in fake plastic masks
in rubber boots and fucking mittens,

Ignoring the sun, washing ourselves
in the clouds
and the bottle
that drips of whiskey and camaraderie.

What's in the knowing?
Lonely, corroded hearts
buried by tortured minds.

Touching. It is true, we are all suffering.

Thanks for reading and sharing @funderground <3

Love it @nikinapier. What prompted it?

Also, would you be interested in entering my poetry competition? link here. It would be great to see how you approach it and you could win a share of my 30 Steem giveaway.

Thanks for reading @maninayton!
This poem speaks to how "ugly" I feel giving in to "normal" life's distractions that don't serve me and have nothing to do with my goals in life, and how many people around me (specifically Cleveland, the Midwest, or even the U.S. as a whole) are seemingly unaware that there is more to life than hiding who we are behind a "mask" and a bottle of whiskey, for example.
I would love to enter the contest! Only a few days left I see but I just went for a forest walk yesterday as well so my inspiration is fresh anyway :) Thanks for the invite!

Thank you for the story behind the poem. A lot of people - maybe even me? - are so wrapped up in the superficial and ultimately worthless aspects of life that they forget to actually live a life. I'm looking forward to your competition entry.

It's unfortunately too easy to do, but we stay aware and we keep trying and that's all we can do :)

Wow. I really get where you are coming from. You should check out my latest poem and tell me what you think. Your opinion would mean a lot. I also wrote a little blog today on how Easter works in my Midwestern city that you might find interesting.

Thanks for reading @marketwizards! I started to check out your writing and I am definitely going to read more. I'll make sure to leave feedback on the last one! :) Have a great day!
