Errors of Spell Check
It permeates our daily life
To help us avoid spelling strife.
We call this gadget “spell check”
And it comes with our phones, how tech!
If you misspell the field event,
Spell check could stop embarrassment.
But frequently, there’s a problem
That can introduce mayhem…
When it changes a correct word
To a different one more absurd.
One time, I was texting my friend
And saw it before hitting “send”.
It changed my word “ink” to “inky”…
Another word to “poop”! Stinky!
It changed: I’m “tired” to “tires”…
See what kind of babble it fires?
It can be amusing at times-
As well as frustrating sometimes.
Truly, spell check does not discern
Intended meanings or concern-
Itself with what I mean to say…
And hence, it leads my words astray.
It’s also called “Auto correct”
But its’ correctness I object…
At times it will deflect a word
Away although it is preferred.
Someone tried to say: “You’re awesome!”
And do you know what the outcome…
Was? It changed it to artichoke!
And that happened. It’s not a joke…
And spell check does this every day,
To sneak replace a word away.
Sometimes I can catch the error
And be the sentence repairer.
Other times, I hit “send” too fast-
And then see what trouble was passed.
There isn’t always time to check
Every word before it hits deck.
It makes me laugh… then… what the heck?
But that’s the errors of spell check.
