The Maple's Sanguine Lament
Wishing all my American Hivelanders a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you all are sitting down to a magnificent table laden with your favorite feast-like dishes. Even if it is just toast, popcorn, and jelly beans for you, may you be surrounded by your favorite people and spoiled pets gobbling up scraps that fall beneath the table..
I'm Canadian and we celebrated Thanksgiving over a month ago. Now, we wait patiently to really get into the swing of it with regards to celebrating Christmas. Actually right now I am not feeling all that festive, as I do Sisyphean battle with the Aeroplan people. They can't seem to figure out why so many customers are unable to redeem their Aeroplan points. We are heading into the second hour of my third call. Anyways. rant aside.
There is still plenty of things to be thankful for, even up here in the frigid, but beautiful Hinterlands. My house is warm and comfortable, Minime happy, and the cats affectionate. Family is nearby, and warmer weather, according to the forecast, just four days away. To clarify, warm for us.Most of you would still freeze your tushies.
I have to admit, I am missing Vancouver's extended fall and warmer temperatures. The snow here is at an in between depth at the moment. Too deep for comfortable walking and not deep enough for snow-shoeing. We did get some indoor ice skating in however, last weekend; and we will probably do so again this weekend. But like I said, I am craving a little more Autumn and so in that vein. Here comes a little fall-inspired spoken word and poetry. Scroll down for text version of the poem.
