dancing oak leaves spin.

Haiku can serve as a powerful tool for finding inner peace amidst the chaos of daily life. The act of writing or reading haiku provides a momentary escape from the noise and distractions, allowing us to connect with ourselves and the world around us on a deeper level.

I have found myself more aware of both sensory and bodily sensations through my practice of writing haiku. This connection with the immediate brings inner peace above and beyond the realms of thought.

“Pleasure is always derived from something outside you, whereas joy arises from within.”
― Eckhart Tolle

This post is the second in a series of poetry blogs that will explore the positive effects of haiku on mental health by helping to find stillness through mindfulness.

What is Haiku?

Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry that dates back to the 17th century. It consists of three lines with a total of 17 syllables, typically arranged in a 5-7-5 pattern. The brevity and simplicity of haiku make it a perfect medium for capturing fleeting moments and expressing profound emotions.

Embrace the Haiku Way: Start jotting down your own haiku, embrace the beauty of the present moment, and witness the transformative power of this ancient poetic form.
