Forget the apologies, I loved you!
I forgave you even when I was wrong
And forgave you even when you were right.
I should have left that night;
My bags and guitar strings were packed
But your tears are like diamonds
And your lips quivered so.
I should have walked away,
Let the wind in to wipe all traces
Of my existence from your presence.
Despite the intricacies of your romance,
The mood swings and liquor bottles
That pulled my feet from under me.
Despite the smell of stale sex in the sheets,
The lost condoms finding themselves beneath my feet,
I loved you like cannabis and kisses,
Like a bong and sweet opiod bliss.
Like a cancerous cells I clung,
Like a limpet, a thorny creeper, I clung
To a dream of you finding yourself
And finding me waiting, always waiting.
Cleaning up, getting your crunchies
For the munchies, bathing your body,
Treating your wounds.
When you were low, I was there,
With a song, a poem, a story to tell.
I brought light and music
And your smile was worth every thing.
And broke into pieces my heart, I stayed
And pretended to be fine.
When you broke into pieces and
Gifted me with your tears,
I washed my heart with it and stayed
For at the end, I was the only one
Who knew how much you hated yourself.
I have loved you.
