Losing a Planet
I’m missing something this morning
I don’t know what some part of my shadow maybe
but no it’s still there as it leads me townwards
and I don’t know what it is
I’ve lost
as I drift through the square in the blue haze of the sun
and a sudden rain starts to fall from empty skies
falls soft against my face
falls sparkling in the sunlight
falls so fine it keeps losing
its direction
a sun-shower
vanishing
and I move on to streets
of shoppers and traffic and skinny buskers
still wondering what it is
that’s gone
when I pass a café
and stop by the window
at a lonely face –
but it isn’t
you.
