Poet's Note on "Roughly drug through thoughts"
(thoughts of the poet on the poem linked to above)
It can be a conflicting feeling when stuck in a cycle of thinking about a past or current lover.
On one hand, this is someone who may have once again helped you find the pulse of your, made it sing, set it free, or however you want to word it. On the other hand, this person may now be far away, ignoring you, constantly hurting you, leaving you, or just someone you may never be with again.
It's hard to stop thinking about someone you care (or have cared) about. This caring is the very reason they're occupying your mind in the first place and the thing that makes what's happening especially hurt.
Let it go. Let them go. Smile though your heart is aching. Smile even though it's breaking. They still have a hold of your heart, but it isn't them that's doing this to you: it's you.
Let that string unwind, unravel the strangehold it has on your heart and mind. Smile while focusing on the better sides of life. The career side of your life, your birth family, your chosen family (close friends, friends, and lovers), nature, art/music, the small things that bring you joy, the value of living outside of this person.
Believe it or not there is value in the world outside of this person, and YOU yourself are valuable. More than perhaps you or those around you know.
As someone I listen to likes to say, "You are beautiful. You are powerful. You are free."
