If I eat this whole bag of magic stars
I will feel better
I can fill this emptiness
With chocolate stars with happy faces
Smiling on the inside
Until I can smile too
So I eat this whole bag of magic stars
Still just the same
As when I was a little kid
And I wasn’t allowed chocolate stars with happy faces
And my friend shared hers
Until I was smiling too
This is my entry into SPU Poetry Contest the theme is meaningful food.
I wasn't allowed chocolate as a kid, and I have a really strong memory of walking the same way home with another little girl, and her sneaking me some magic stars, something about them always makes me feel better.
I don't write many none rhyming poems, normally when I do, they come like a bolt out of the blue, so I am not sure how much I like this one, but #PoetsUnited it all about helping each other, and improvement, so here is trying something outside of my comfort zone!
(Photo by me, with thanks to @johngreenfield for providing the chocolate stars!)
I like this a lot. Food does have a lot of memories associated and yours is very poignant with complex emotions going on.
Thank you :) I am still not certain about this, or the wisdom of eating an entire sharing bag of magic stars to myself lol it is probably one of the first times i tried actual real chocolate and not the fake stuff from the health food shop :)
I think everyone's eaten a bag of chocolate to themselves at some point or another. (looks innocent) ;)
awwweeee :p lol
