Niantic has announced that it will be possible to transfer pokemon caught in Pokemon Go to the upcoming Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee games. That's already good, as it gives players the chance to finally do something with the hundreds of pokemon they have caught while traveling around planet earth, but why stop there?
So here's the idea: give players the option to export Pokemon Go mons out of the game onto a blockchain and convert them into cryptocollectibles like Cryptokitties. These could be converted to have a full set of stats (including nature, abilities, etc.) and four moves, just like pokemon from the core games, and they could use the classic turn-based battling system to battle on the blockchain, instead of Pokemon Go's click-and-swipe battles. This would instantly solve many of Niantic's currently existing problems, such as the still missing PvP battling, trading, and breeding features, and would spark new interest in Pokemon Go.
Moreover, Niantic might find completely new business models around token economics. Based on their strategy, they might even conduct an ICO. I'm not saying that players should be able to sell their pokemon for real-world currency like other cryptocollectibles. This would clearly be against the spirit of pokemon games and trading has always been the way to transfer ownership of a pokemon, but with a sensible way to obtain these cryptotokens and to spend them for in-game goodies, this could both greatly enhance the game and earn Niantic a new source of revenue.
