Cetitan ex + Team Rocket's Wobbuffet From The Glory of Team Rocket Japan Set

Hi there. Here is a short post covering Cetitan ex and Team Rocket's Wobbuffet Pokemon cards from the Japan set The Glory of Team Rocket.

Cetoddle

Cetoddle is a bulky 100 HP Basic Water Pokemon. It does have a high retreat cost of 3 and Metal Weakness. Both of its attacks are not great as the energy costs are too high for the low damage it deals.

Cetitan ex is the Stage 1 evolved form of Cetoddle. This is another one of those rare Stage 1 Pokemon with 300 HP. This Cetitan has a large retreat cost of four, Metal weakness into a metagame filled with Gholdengo ex and Archaludon ex.

The Snow Cover ability from Cetitan ex is a powerful defensive ability. Whenever your opponent plays an Item or Supporter card from their hand you prevent all effects of that card done to Cetitan ex. This prevents Cetitan ex being a target of Counter Catcher, Prime Catcher, Pokemon Catcher and Boss's Orders (and even the new Team Rocket's Giovanni)

Cetitan ex's Crush Press attack is costly. It requires 3 Water Energy and one Colourless energy to deal 140 base damage. If you choose to discard a Stadium in play then Crush Press does 280 damage instead (140 + 140).

In theory, Baxcalibur helps with Water Energy accleration. Without Irida in the G, H, I format it is difficult to get Baxcalibur in play and get Cetitan ex in play. I want to like Cetitan ex but the timing is bad as Gholdengo ex and Archaludon are really popular.

Team Rocket's Wobbuffet

Team Rocket's Wobbuffet is a Basic 110 HP Psychic Pokemon. The Jet Headbutt attack is not great at one Psychic Energy and 2 Colourless Energy to deal 70 damage.

What makes this Wobbuffet interesting is the Rocket Mirror attack. It is an effect attack where you transfer all damage counters from 1 of your Benched Team Rocket's Pokemon to your opponent's Active Pokemon. The energy cost is one Psychic and one Colourless Energy but you can use one Team Rocket's Energy for the manual attachment for the turn to power this attack up easily.

In a Team Rocket deck featuring Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex and related cards I think this Team Rocket's Wobbuffet is a good alternate attacker. Transfer damage counters from a damaged Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex with the first attack from Team Rocket's Wobbuffet. I think one copy of this Wobbuffet is good. Two could be too much.

Illustration Rare Version

There is a colourful illustration rare version of Team Rocket's Wobbuffet. Note the absence of Jessie, James and Meowth from the anime. Some people are not happy with their absence. This card still looks good (at least to me).

What do you think of this Wobbuffet or this Team Rocket set? The Team Rocket cards will be in Destined Rivals in May 2025. Journey Together is already crazy with pre-orders selling out instantly. Imagine the Destined Rivals set with Cynthia's Garchomp, Ethan's Ho-Oh ex and the Team Rocket cards.
