"Well, I'm not gonna lie. There's been some reversals." - Worm, Rounders
Poker, as they say, has its vicissitudes and such was the past week for me.
Things were going swimmingly Wednesday night at my weekly (virtual) home game which, because it takes place on the PokerStars platform, is conducted as a tournament with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place pay-outs of varying amounts as determined by the de facto "club" treasurer after tallying up all the buy-ins and re-buys that came in for that particular game. Well, after a week of hitting the poker strategy books, I came in hot, playing a far more aggressive style than I usually do in that game and was rewarded with a 2nd place finish. Not bad.
Then, flush with wanton hubris, I went to my local casino card room on Saturday and sat down at a $1/$3 NLHE cash game. Four hours later I left with the lint in my pockets and the valuable statistics lesson that, yes, you can be dealt two cards out of the same fifty-two card deck as eight other people approximately one hundred and thirty times and still have only a pair of jacks as the best hand to show for all that shuffling. Add to that the fact there was a calling station at the far end of the table who only seemed to be getting bullets and cowboys and, well, it was humbling.
Luckily, I had @alessandrawhite as my wheel woman and she was waiting for me in the hotel lobby bar with a nice glass of pinot noir in which to drown my sorrows. So, on that pleasantly dry, smoky note I'll wrap it up for now but stay tuned as we try again next week after more study and, hopefully, a little more luck!
Hey, I resemble that remark!!
And just to show, me and my Trentino 🇮🇹 Pinot Noir were willing to take one for the team!
I can be called on at any time. You mean that much to me! 😉

I expect you have to be really good to win all the time. Plus there's the element of luck. I hope your luck improves.
