Just Got All-In! Surfer Girl Playing Poker In Vegas And Having A Blast 💰

'It's always good to be underestimated.' - Donald Trump

Exceptionally I fully agree with you, Donald!

As long as you don't reveal your complete power you are able to take your competitors by surprise.

Surprises are a smart weapon!

Being a young blond girl sitting at a poker table full of dominant alpha males loaded with too much testosterone is definitely a good strategic position ;-)

@surfermarly trying to make a pokerface 😎

All-In: Or You Win Or You Learn

Before starting this trip to Las Vegas I predefined a "poker budget" separated from my main vacation budget.

One of the most important things in such an environment where huge amounts of money are lost every second, is to define your own limits BEFORE starting to play.

People don't lose their whole existence in casinos because they were not lucky. They fail because they get crazy.

You know why I was the only female sitting at that poker table? Because girls usually avoid stress.

Playing poker is constant stress.

You need to control your emotions in situations that increase your blood pressure in such way that you feel as if the cervical artery at your neck is going to explode.

You need to make smart decisions that can have a considerable impact on your wealth all the time. You know that every single decision counts.

Man, what a thrill!

I sat down at the table and got two good hands right away.

Guess what I did with them?

I folded. I consciously missed two chances to increase my stack because I was still too nervous at that point of time, haha!

No problem at all.

I was lucky and these two weren't the last opportunities given to me in that game.

However, they were not enough to save me from losing the whole stack.

Poker Room | Home of Adrenaline

How I lost $400 bucks in two hours and still am the happiest girl on Earth :-)

That was my today's limit: $400 dollars in a 1-2 unlimited game.

I bought in with $100 and then constantly topped my stack up when I got down under $70.

Actually that wasn't a small budget for this type of games. However my table was extremely strong and that was probably one of the reasons why I lost my money too quickly.

It was the classic situation I would have loved to avoid: two high testosterone professionals with stacks of about 5-10K in front of them sitting to my LEFT (oh boy) fully controlling the table.

I folded the two nice hands I mentioned before because I needed time to analyze their behavior and position.

The bad players of the table were sitting to my right. Three guys that revealed every single emotion, complaining loudly about their bad hands, even showing their folded hands to other players.

They played like almost every hand, even if they were holding the worst pair of cards in their hands you might imagine.

What a strange disequilibrium! And me sitting right in the middle of these two chairs.

I played tight. But obviously not tight enough.

It was extraordinarily expensive to play a hand in this game since these two at my left were raising quickly when they had something. To call them required me to go all-in all the time.

Whenever the two cracks were not in, and I played against the other ones, I won. Every time. However, these hands were cheep so I couldn't win that much with them.

So I constantly lost small amounts of money.

I went all-in two times and don't regret my decision, because I had strong cards. I simply wasn't lucky enough to monetize them in the end.

That's another rule of poker: if you make the right decision and lose, then it wasn't a question of strategy but simply bad luck.

Guess who taught me that much about poker? Yip, my very best buddy and friend @knircky who's with me in Vegas these days. He is up while I am currently down, so that's a classic situation: boy earning money and girl spending it 😂👍

The rest of my day is going to be relaxed. I need to decrease the adrenaline level in my blood, haha!

Tomorrow I'll be back at the tables with the second half of my poker budget.

So cross your fingers for me, Steemians! I'll keep you posted on my second try ;)

No risk, no fun...

Marly -

PS: I was so nervous that I totally forgot to take a nice picture of my stack at the table. No problem: tomorrow I'll do that - hopefully having some nice chip towers in front of me, haha 😆✌️

Sort:

Bonne chance! Steem on, girl!

😄😇😄

@creatr

Thanks my friend!!!
You wanna here the funniest anecdote?
The guy to my right sees my WSOP (World Series Of Poker) hoodie and says "Oh you went to WSOP?" I replied: "Sure I played a tournament." He: "Oh really?" Me (laughing): "Do you seriously believe I look like I played there? I'm a tourist!"
Then the whole table started laughing 😂

Hahahahaha! LOL!

Thanks for sharing your story, and have a great time there sweetie! :D

Who else is trying to give a cool comment in way to take some upvotes :D ?

LOL - thanks for the laughter, I'll give you a nice upvote for making me smile 😁✌️

Nice! What a way to spend the day! We always used to go to the poker room down in Biloxi at the Beau Rivage. Me and another buddy used to have a blast playin' for hours while the other guys hit the smaller gaming tables on the main floor. I never spent a lot of time at those tables just the poker room or a tournament. Good for you! Wish you had taken them! Those were the days before my kids or part of them...... good times :)

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your own experiences. To me being in a casino is almost a huge gift. I've never had such a crazy type of fun 😄 I mean you step out of the elevator at 9am to have breakfast and become part of a big party right away.
That I'm able to play poker is like the chocolate topping on my ice cream 😉

Do they play softer against you because youre a woman? Maybe not willingly. There are definitely some things you can take benefit of. Some guys may try to flirt with you when they are drunk. When you say alpha male, means they have that big ego, which you could take benefit off. Good times to be a woman. Hit em girl !!

LOL - that's exactly what happens there. They start flirting all the time but notice soon that I'm kind but focused on the game and nothing else 😉 It definitely feels as if they don't take me for granted. Some of them (mostly weak players) even verbally apologize when they steal some of my money (not kidding) haha

I played again last night and won 150 bucks 😄✌️ Will do another post about it...

Roulette is the only thing I ever win at :D

Same here, I pay for many things irl because of roulette. Bought 150 euro's of clothes today, all from casino profit :) Will make a blog soon about my strategies maybe, not sure xD

Oh I definitely wanna read that post! Drop the link in my blog when it's ready to not miss it pls 😉👍

Alright, got some irl things I need to manage first, but I will write a blog about it in the future. I will let you know by then :)

HEeeeel yeah :D

Roulette can be profitable? How??
Crazy! I thought it was just based on luck and nothing else...

It can very profitable, I live on my own (student) and do my own groceries and going out to pubs from casino profits a lot, all made on roulette. The house always has a 2.7% advantage, so whatever your input is, you will have a -2.7% disadvantage. However, playing by repetitive patterns and quitting on time significantly increases your winnings - Atleast in my 4 years experience. :)

Well it's still chance, but the odds are pretty good. The Best odds are in Craps and Blackjack... but you have to be good at the game lol Roulette is simple but the odds are decent :D Start small, red or black. If you hit you double up immediately then can start playing the numbers and stuff that potentially pay out better. That's just me though hehe

You are one of the best content creators on this site I commend you for standing up to evident you put hours of effort into your work.

Excellent job!

I agree

upvote this if you like to upvote things.

Oh wow!!! What a huge compliment. Thank you very much 🙂

I avoid playing poker because of losing...however it is ok if its just a one time event to get the experience...good post and keep steeming

Well that's part of the game 😉 Especially in the beginning you lose very often.
But I see it more as entertainment than real competition. When I put these chips on the table I try to consider them being gone already. If you focus too much on the fact that your real money is part of the game, it might influence your way of making decisions in a inappropriate way.

Good point, my only worry is that my best lady surfer remain safe and no addiction to pokers or gambling. Keep steeming and powering up...the way to go

Best of luck!
Post on your next Vegas visit and perhaps we'll meet up next time! 😊
IMG_4325.jpg
That's after 2 rounds of Roulette straight away after checking in LATE Monday night.
Left the table to drop off luggage, 2 winning hands in a row on Roulette, odds are my timing was perfect 😉
I put $100 down...
😜
Good luck Saturday!!!
Odds are you'll have fewer sharks and more tourists - keep that in mind 😉

Playing any WSOP events? I live in Vegas, just busted a WSOP event.

Great post, thanks. I was interested in your comment about the bad players being on your right. That is great when you are in position, but the people who are most dangerous are the ones on your left. That's where you really want the bad players. Due to health I mostly play online these days, but I love playing tournaments in the local casino, although they don't let your pick your table, just the seat on it. There aren't a lot of cash tables here so you don't get a lot of opportunity to look for a table where you can get an advantage. As to women at tables, my experience here is that most of them are in fact pretty good players and I suspect given that it is a male dominated activity (had a debate the other day as to whether it is a game or a sport given the endurance required for tournaments) that they are playing because they are interested.

Do you feel that people treat you differently? Do you find men less aggressive towards you than each other?

Yip, they treated me differently. But just in the conversations. When playing the only thing that counts is your own money, and it doesn't matter who exactly is the one that tries to steal it. When it comes to fight, the others sitting at that table with you are all enemies - including blonde girls 😄

Good luck! I don't know a thing about poker so I stay away from it. I can't lose that way.

Thank you!!!
Learning how to deal with failure is probably the hardest and most important part of the game. I fully understand your point!!

Hey humble tip. I think that if you sit with the $400 at once, you have better chances. Specially on a no limit table. The sharks to your left might consider calling your all in, increasing your chances of winning without showdown.

But if they hold 10k is going to be tough really. Aren´t there other fishier tables?

Good luck tomorrow and waiting for that picture of a massive stack :D

All having $400 on the table would have provided more chances but more risk as well. So I decided to chose the less risky way since this was my very first game after 5 years 😉
You can't chose the table here just the game. And at my casino they are all playing 1-2 unlimited. So I just need to get a better table tomorrow, and it'll be alright 👍
Nice shot / stack. Am motivated now haha

haha! What an adrenaline rush for sure! Have fun. Glad to see you are having so much fun on your road trip.

Good point, she is really amazing

Oh yeah! I needed four hours to get my body back to a regular energy level hahaha 😄 The adrenaline totally boosted me!

That's a tough position to be in - two pros with big stacks to your left. Especially, considering it's your first time at a poker table! Wishing you luck tomorrow!

Fully agreed! It was a tough first session. But hey, great learnings and I'm more than ready for tomorrow 😉
Thanks for the wishes!!

Pshh. Make @knircky pay for you biers

Haha I may invite him since he's been a great poker teacher!!! 😃

This is my go to move to confuse everyone:

50% of the time, works every time

LOL! Nice one. I suppose other players just paid you for stopping to do that...?! 😂👍

A lady like guy, you even play poker. Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.😁😉

Whatever happens in Vegas, stays on the blockchain 😁✌️

Only do poker when you can do the math accordingly... Else stick with other games :) The mathematical -> pro players (manipulation) benefit from the weak.

Sorry, I just had to comment here..
Most pros say they would rather be able to read players than do the math..
Do you agree with this or is what you are saying is just your opinion??
Thanks........

Depends on where you play poker. If you play poker online, the mathematical approach will make you generate profit for you over the long-term. (If you want me to back this up with sources, I will dive into it again. But I highly recommend you to do this yourself, as that's where you learn stuff :-) )
If you play poker offline (e.g. at casino) body language is dominant, and indeed, once the pro players notice you play mathematically offline you will get Rekt. The fun thing is, manipulation is easier than most people think. Just walk away on time when you have gained your winnings. Act like a beginner when you join the table, play very mathematically the first 5-10 rounds (while steadily increasing your input with JND (Just noticeable difference), and then lure the others into betting along with you when they think you have bad cards. The only downside of this is, you must analyze your fellow players without anybody noticing this. The folks at normal casinos tend to be easy distracted due to the alcohol consumption, make use of it. That's how I have done it in the past, earned me some nice money in a short amount of time.

When a competitor obviously gets emotional how do you know if he does that due to a very good or very bad hand?
On my opinion you need to follow your own strategy first and then probably add reading the other's behavior. If you play tight e.g. it actually doesn't matter if the other players are drunk gamblers or professional poker stars 😉
PS: Just won $150 in the 1-2 no limit game - post to be published on steemit soon...😎

That depends on how the competitor acted on previous hands, when analyzing a person you need to have a threshold of their behavior (just an example): if person A blinks a couple of times looking at his chips before setting his bet, and wins with a very strong hand, you have an indication that the blinking is his 'give away'. But it doesn't have to be blinking, could be a specific muscle in his neck, hand movement, checking cards etc. Look for a threshold, and you're good to go :) ( I gained this information by reading 'What every body is saying: An Ex-FBI agent's guide to speed-reading people' by Joe Navarro. Practised a lot with it myself on how to detect these thresholds. Awesome book btw, highly recommend it, tons of great info).
Well, to each their own of course. Strategies differ per person :P But when I am playing poker myself, I try to utilize mathematics and body language.
Gratz on your winnings! That is awesome ^.^ I'm more of a roulette player myself, gained 2x300 euro's last week in 2 visits, while being 30 minutes in the casino itself. :)

Good reasoning Tim..I'm pretty much on the same page..I once flopped a full boat & I checked to the river where my opponent completed his straight..All I had to see was his eyes pop open when it landed on the felt..Boy was I smiling on the inside..Needless to say it was an all in pot..
The best part was when I cashed out after my 4 hr run, I met him on the was out & he congratulated me for a will played hand & asked me if I played any tournaments which I replied, nit yet..My dream is to play for a bracelet..For the thrill & experience of it all..WooHoo!!

Oh man, those stories get me excited haha! I'm so happy for you, lovely to hear! Keep it up!

Thanks Tim..
I wanted to play in the Tournament on Sunday night in the Steemit Poker League, but the password that we have to supply isn't encrypted on the 72 BLUFFAVENUE site..Bummer!!

That's ashame, on the other hand, there are tons of tournaments you can join if you want to :P

I'm totally aware of that 😉
However to me it's a great opportunity to learn. I'd always favor playing and losing over not playing - or burning money gambling around.
But thanks for the idea 🙂✌️

Haha you really prefer play and lose than to not play? Well, we definitely share a different opinion about that xD I prefer to play and win for sure! :P

Me, too. But swinging up and down is part of the game 😉

Marly 4 the WIN... Good Luck tomorrow !!

Hehe thanks!!! 😎✌️

Happy you have bad luck in gambling :) haha

Haha, poker isn't called gambling - plus: I won $150 bucks last night, so am still down but on my way to balance out the investment 😎✌️

lol - I know of course.... I earned my whole school with poker affiliate :)

Oh nice! You mean college? Excellent!
Then you definitely know much more about it than I do 😉👍

yeah in college... that was that time easy made money as here on steemit, haha!

Money is made easy on steemit?? Yeah well having the nuts surely...😆✌️

haha - of course.... while sleep :)
... with bots ✌️

Und wia is da Urlaub?

Haha, funny! Have a great time there! :)

You should've plopped down the $400 at a 1-2 game to start!! I would've felt more comfortable with that!

But you had a blast which is what it is all about!! ]

You couldn't have said this any better!!

That's another rule of poker: if you make the right decision and lose, then it wasn't a question of strategy but simply bad luck.

Too much pressure for me. Thanks for letting us know. Stay calm.
