The south of Poland flaunts one of the most ravishing castles in the world, the Moszna Castle. Known for its reminiscent features like the fantasy castles, the enormous building adorns 99 spires and 365 rooms.
This glorious castle has its history that dates back to the 17th century. Large antiques such as cellars have been found in the gardens, during the excavation process. These cellars have been claimed to belong to an older Templar Castle by an investigator named H. Barthel. But these claims have never been proved to be so.
HISTORY
A German Emperor, Wilhelm II visited the Castle back in the year 1911. Allured by its beauty, it is said that the Emperor could not help but visit it once again. He engaged himself in hunting. Between the years 1866 and 1945, the Tiele-Winckler family owned the castle before they had to leave for Germany, since the Red Army tried to occupy the castle, and successfully did so.
Along the years, the Castle has had to suffer severe losses. During the World War II, it was attacked again, but fortunately the destruction was not as drastic as it had to bear earlier in the reign of the Red Army, after which the Castle was devoid of any owners. In the year of 1972, the castle had been converted into a convalescent home. Thereafter, becoming a Public Health Care Centre.
DESIGN
The design of the Castle has been altered over the years. The Castle was given its authentic Baroque style initially. The Baroque palace is located at the centre of the magnificent castle. But throughout the years, few changes have been made. For instance, the eastern wing had been given a neo-Gothic style in the year of 1900 and the western wing a neo-Renaissance style in 1914. The Baroque palace was deformed partially by fire in 1896. Franz Hubert von Tiele-Winckler reconstructed the damaged portion and continued residing in the Castle.
RECENT YEARS
Presently, it is open to the public for visits. The Health Centre that used to occupy the Castle was shifted to another building, nearby. From the year of 1988, various artists contributed their beautiful their works in the gallery inside the Castle. Close by, visitors take in the beauty of the fascinating park right beside it which includes a few meadows and a forest as well. The park complex possesses a wonderful garden that was designed by Franz Hubert von Tiele-Winckler, before the castle was built. Now, the castle is a beautiful museum, a lavish hotel with a restaurant, and it also lately has started to host summer camps.
