Two millions of refugees have so far found their way from Ukraine to Poland. Two millions! That's a lot! While some of them continue further towards other countries, most of them stay in Poland. And of course, Poland is not the only country with border to Ukraine - half a million has found their way into Hungary, 355k into Moldovia, 300k into Hungary, 240k into Slovakia.
I read on the news the other day that 250k of refugees had found their way into the Czech republic - and it was said officially "this is enough, we can't handle more refugees!". Meanwhile in Norway, the government is bragging that they will pick up 5000 Ukrainians, they strongly recommend people not to help Ukrainians getting to Norway "because the emigration should take place in controlled and orderly means", they fear that as much as 30k, maybe 100k, will find their way into Norway.
I've said it before, and I'd say it again: probably the best way to help Ukraine right now(except driving supplies all the way to the front line and refugees back from there) is probably to open the door and welcome some refugees. This time, Poland leads by example, big time!
Photo from the east train station in Warszawa (Warszawa Wschodnia). I imagine the train station was quite overcrowded a week ago, but when I passed by at Thursday there were almost more volunteers than refugees at the train station.
