Indonesia finally got the modernization of a new type of radar installation, the Weibel radar made in Denmark, which has been purchased by two units in 2014/2015 ago.
The distance between the Australian military base on Christmas Island and the southern coast of Java Island is 400-450 km. Certainly not a great distance for a variety of missions related to Australia's strategic and tactical interests.
There are two Satuan Radar units (Satrad) that intensely move the movement from the direction of Christmas Island, namely Satrad 216 in Ciballimbing, Sukabumi, West Java with Thomson TR2215D radar made in France, and Satrad 215 in Congot, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta with Plessey AWS type radar -2 made in England.
In terms of performance and range of detection, Weibel is clearly superior. This radar can operate in any weather, its mode of operation can keep track of an area in 360-degree rotation. Tracking distance between 550 to more than 1000 km and reconnaissance at a distance of 250 to 400 km. The radar also features a Tx Synthetic Aperture system to create images from objects, such as landscapes in 2D or 3D views, providing better spatial resolution than conventional radars. Weibel Radar also features Rx Digital Multi Beam Phased array.
Radar Weibel has a muzzle velocity radar system, active protection radar system, doppler system, Radar Systems tracking, multi-frequency, ranging radar for third-party platforms, multi-sensor tracking and surveillance and tracking systems. In principle there are two detection systems on Weibel, namely Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) and Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR).
