Amissah-Arthur told me NDC officials were stealing Ghana's money - Kennedy Agyapong reveals

Outspoken NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has alleged that late former Vice President Amissah-Arthur confided in him about how some of the NDC officials were robbing the nation.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s morning show, ‘Badwam’ Tuesday, the legislator revealed that late Amissah-Arthur told him that some National Democratic Congress officials were stealing money from the state like there was no tomorrow.

He went on to reveal that even though the late Amissah-Arthur was the second most powerful person in Ghana during the John Mahama-led administration, he was ‘powerless’ because he no one listened to him when he spoke.

Kennedy Agyapong revealed that the former vice president tried relentlessly to get a job for someone in the Ministry of Energy but he failed.

Speaking further, the Assin Central Member of Parliament added that he was surprised that late Amissah-Arthur decided to be the running mate of then-President Mahama because he was frustrated.

Adding more to his comments, Mr. Agyapong revealed that Amissah-Arthur confided in him one day and told him about how some NDC folks were “stealing money like there was no tomorrow”.

Mr. Agyapong revealed that he went on a radio show in New York and repeated the words of late Amissah-Arthur only to receive a phone call from him pleading with him to stop talking for fear of being implicated as the ‘whistle-blower’.

Despite making such claims about the late former veep, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong went on to eulogize Amissah Arthur and labeled him as a ‘nice person’.

Mr. Amissah-arthur was rushed to the 37 Military hospital after he collapsed at the Air force Gym on Friday, June 29.

The former Veep was confirmed dead at the health facility and the news sparked nationwide grief with many people taking to social media to commiserate with the bereaved family.

Messages of condolence have come from the quarters of the President, Vice President and Former President.

Ghanaians from all walks of life have also expressed their grief over the death of the 67-year-old former vice president.

Before becoming vice president in August 2012, Mr. Amissah-Arthur was Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.

From 1983 to 1986, he served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) government.

He also served as the Deputy Secretary for Finance in the PNDC government from February 1986 to March 1993.

From April 1993, he continued as the Deputy Minister for Finance in the under the Fourth Republic’s first government until March 1997.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur was appointed as Governor of the Bank of Ghana in October 2009 by then-President John Atta Mills.
