Contrary to what europundits tell us, Italy was very successful economically until it joined the euro. There may be other reasons for its striking decline since (zero growth 1999-2016), but it is easy to see why most Italians see the euro as the main culprit. What is happening in Italy is nothing short of a rebellion of the peasants against their unelected Brussels overlords.
