Long vs Short

in #politics6 years ago (edited)

The majority of steem seems fixated on long posts because apparently that brings the most "value". That is incorrect. Social labor between people is the fastest way to build value in a community, and the more time you spend writing your post the less you interact with your community. Short posts should be valued more than longer ones, especially when they start discussions. A big part of that is that while we focus on longer posts only a few people will lead the discussion, but when we allow shorter posts many others who do not have the time or ability to write longer posts can join in.

What do you base this on?

Social labor between people is the fastest way to build value in a community, and the more time you spend writing your post the less you interact with your community.

the more time you spend writing your post, the more information you are giving to others. (Your social labor is increasing?)

Short posts should be valued more than longer ones, especially when they start discussions.

Posts with less information should be worth more than posts with more information...? How does that work?

A big part of that is that while we focus on longer posts only a few people will lead the discussion, but when we allow shorter posts many others who do not have the time or ability to write longer posts can join in.

There is no rules on 'longer' or 'shorter' post length, so I'm not sure what you are saying.

(You want to control the market by the value of shorter or longer posts?)

Ah, but: Short posts also mean shortened arguments, which will often fail to analyze the underlying problems. In a complex world there are no easy solutions.
Imo, the best posts are those who refer to the complexity of a problem, but still start a discussion.

that's the wrong mindset. Who says the post has to analize the problem at all? Pointing it out is enough

Not all posts might aim for just pointing out problems, maybe some want to share ideas on how to solve them too - and in the case where complex problems are adressed, short content might not be sufficient to do so.

Btw.: Who are you to tell ME how MY mindset should be?

yes, but not all posts should

you ever tried this new thing called calming down lmao
