Being a great and Successful leader in 2018

“Leaders are either born or made”.

In life today, we have people that are born leaders and others that made themselves leaders. But one thing is common the both groups work through the process of training.

Now someone might say “why will a person that is a born leader go through the process of training, is it really necessary?”

Yes it might not look necessary but the truth is what brings out the leader in “born leaders” is the training, without training the leadership trait might just die off. So training reveals the leader in us, and this post is a primary process of training in leadership.

We're in 2018, and if you are in a leadership position or planning to or might end up being in a leadership position or eventually we all get to lead in one way or the other then this post is for you!

So the following are ways to be a successful leader in 2018:

Convenience : I will like to say this, leadership is not a thing of convenience! At any point in life where you get to lead, the first thing you should understand is that it's not a call to convenience. So if you are going to wait for convenience, exaltation and honour then you will never be a great and successful leader. As a leader you have to be willing to let go of your personal interest which will give you convenience. So for you to be a successful leader then you have to leave convenience out!.
Count the Cost : One major thing most politicians fail to do as a leader is to count the Cost of being a leader. In the Bible, while Jesus was choosing the church leaders (the disciples) one of the things he told them was to count the cost. Cost of leadership if not figured out early will lead you to being an unsuccessful leader. Whether it's a voluntary or compulsory leadership role, once you're in or before you're in, it is pertinent you check and count the cost that is what you will possibly lose as you're a leader, the negative effects of your leadership role and if you're ready to carry the cross!
Willingness to Carry the Cross: I know some leadership roles or positions sometimes, are not wanted by the person filling the vacancy but there is an understanding you must have this year, if you are chosen to lead, you must understand that it's a privilegeand sometimes you might not be better than the people you're leading, so always see leadership role as a privilege and with that fact be willing to carry the cross of leading the people. This will make you a leader that will be remembered over the years, why because you had the willingness to lead people if not any other thing.

4.Sacrifice : A major attribute of a successful leader is his or her ability to sacrifice! For you to be a successful leader you must be willing to sacrifice at all point in time for the good of the people that you are leading. Also, as a leader you *must be passionate about your service and don’t be a positional leader; that is don’t just bear the name but be the leader. Remember this “ as a leader you are the chief-servant of the people”. It really pays to be a leader!

5.Discipline : In leadership, everything you want to do must begin with you. If you want the people to be discipline then you on your own must lead by example. For instance, learn to keep to time as a leader and learn to do something where people don't do according to the rules because what you tolerate will become a habit! So raise standards and ensure others live by it, not excluding yourself.

6.Have a will to Succeed: The will to succeed as a leader is an act of faith . So for you to be a successful leader, first, you must be willing to succeed. The will to succeed encompasses alot like the following:

Never be discouraged by the challenges that come to you as a leader because challenges will come, if you want to succeed then you must learn to see challenges and discouragement as a benchmark to success .
Never give excuses for failure in any aspect in your course of leadership.
Never allow people and circumstances to stand as excuses, one thing you should know is; excuses are made, they don't exist!
It may come to a time where people don't like you, this is the point, in leadership not everyone will like you.

So in all this, always have the will to succeed!

7.Information/Influence: learn to get the people who have influence and share your vision and get them to your side. This will really help you to succeed as a leader and also, do all you can to give the people the information you need to succeed. Now most leaders are fond of giving the information and going to sleep, it doesn't work that way, you don't wait for things to happen, make what you want to happen, make, show and do what you want to happen. You don't also wait for things to happen, you plan for them to happen.

I believe, this post will aid you to being a successful leader in 2018.
