Jeff Sessions and the War on People

in #politics8 years ago

Many years ago, politicians declared a "War on Drugs" that turns out just to be a war on people. In one WaPo article I read Jeff Sessions came out recently asking Congress for permission to go after medical marijuana dispensaries (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/06/13/jeff-sessions-personally-asked-congress-to-let-him-prosecute-medical-marijuana-providers/?utm_term=.6aac62cbe076). I wonder if there's some sort of connection to the record incarceration rates I hear about (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/rural-small-town-jails-are-driving-america-s-high-incarceration-n771061)? Jeff Sessions is the stupidest person to ever hold the office of Attorney General. I am so sick of hearing about fascists who think it's okay to throw peaceful people in jail, and this one holds the highest law enforcement position in the land.

You need a victim for a crime to have been committed. Legally speaking, you can't victimize yourself. There's no way to square that circle in the programming that is the legal system. It must follow logically consistent principles, or the whole thing falls apart, as we are seeing happen now with the war on drugs. When you take a thing that a person does to their own body and make it a crime, you can incarcerate millions of people who never did anything to anyone. It's almost impossible to comprehend how stupid proponents of drug laws can be, and now after many years of research into the practice and elucidated evidence indicating zero connection with actual crimes that involve victims, we've got some asshole who wants to once again expand these failed policies.

Trump's supposed libertarian supporters need to put pressure on him to shit-can this idiot Sessions. Did you know that people can go to prison for up to 40 years simply for possessing certain amounts of illicit drugs? Again, Sessions wants to expand this practice, while people convicted of first degree murder sometimes get less. And don't even get me started on sentencing practices for rapists. The average sentence is 9.8 years with 5.4 typically served (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laws_regarding_rape). A man who violates a person in the most intimate of ways, by in fact entering them, is somehow considered less of a threat to society than someone who has some baggies filled with powder.

What else can you expect from a republican from Alabama?
Utter stupidity.

Jeff Sessions is an insult even to republicans.
