I live in NJ and we have an election for governor happening in under a month.
The Democrat promises to put a bill up within 100 days to legalize Marijuana. Of course he also want to raise taxes and spend more stolen money in a state it is impossible to afford to live in already.
The Republican wants to only decriminalize (fine only) Marijuana and expand the medial program. She'll also lower property taxes in the state with the highest theft rate.
Where does the community fall? Weed is already easy to get. The cops are completely corrupt and take every opportunity to harass the peaceful public. Is complete legalization and taxation the way to go? Remember, it comes with California-style government. Or is decentralization the route in this instance? Cut down on the police state a good amount and starve the beast in Trenton with lower taxes and no weed taxes?
How does @cheetah not flag this?

Why would this be flagged? I took this directly from my Facebook Account. Seems like maybe you need some flagging:
I can see both sides of the argument here, on one hand you are right, the taxes to live in this state are crazy high and show no signs of decreasing as it stands. If the Democratic party wins, why raise taxes AND tax weed? Why not use the taxed income from weed sales as the "communal pot" to spend on things needed instead of taxing the people even more? It seems like overkill to me. On the republican side, I do like the push to expand the medical program. It's not debatable whether or not it is beneficial as a medicine for many things (I have Crohn's and at one time considered medical marijuana, but the amount of red tape to wade through turned me off the idea). I've said this before, if we had a party candidate who wanted to legalize weed, expand the medical program AND lower taxes, then that person would win. Common sense is something that escapes politicians and it's disheartening as a voter. In all honesty I will probably not vote as I live in an apartment and don't smoke so neither of these issues apply to me and I don't know enough about either candidate besides those issues to make an educated decision.
Thanks for the input!
I live in an apartment too. I will say that raised property taxes will most likely end with your rent being raised to offset the landowners costs.
And we do have a candidate that wants to legalize and lower taxes. The Libertarian Party candidate.
That's a good point. And with that said, it looks like will have to do some homework about the libertarian candidate.
This is an important topic, as I'm sure more and more states will be asking themselves the same questions as we move forward. I can understand the initial urge to keep taxes out of it, but I think looking at how states that are taxing it are doing, shows that this proves to be extremely beneficial to the state. State after state are making tens of millions of dollars in taxes, which are then used to rebuild roads, clean up cities, update schools' technology, etc.
Also, no fines for having weed.
The problem with NJ is the Democratic Party wants to legalize and tax weed. They also want to raise all the other taxes to cover roads and schools. So it never ends.
Finally, it's NJ. Where the money always disappears anyway. The corruption is beyond insane.
