I haven't watched TV in about a year. Take your mind back!

in #politics8 years ago

Now, don't get me wrong, all of these new series shows that have taken over in recent years are actually quite impressive and I absolutely adore watching films but over the past few years my addiction to television has diminished to the point I'm at now where I hardly find anything interesting on TV anymore.

My new TV has been YouTube, Netflix and of course now, STEEMIT !!!

Everything on the regular "TV" I grew up loving is nothing but, let's be honest, garbage. Commercial after commercial, scripted "reality" shows, even those presidential debates, buy this buy that, think like this not like that, be this way and only this way not that way, you are not in control, you are a consumer so consume and we'll get right back to your regularly scheduled programming.

From someone I know who is in the industry and is what you would consider a celebrity with moderate success, "honey, the scriptwriters are god!" We are seeing this firsthand with Donald Trump's wife and her speech that was an exact copy of Michelle Obama's. I'd rather have someone make a speech off the cuff, mistakes and all, this way I know it is truly coming from an honest and real place.

What are your thoughts on this? How many hours of TV does everybody watch in a given week? Do you really believe everything you see as far as the news and reality TV, what about the current Trump Hillary show going on? Do these newer cinematic commercials influence you enough to go out and consume whatever it is they want you to?

For me, nowadays I'd rather kick back and read a good book or go to YouTube and learn something worthwhile. What about you guys? What do you enjoy doing most besides watching TV?

Peace.

I gave up cable and tv watching a couple years ago. I don't regret it at all. I mostly stay occupied with podcasts, youtube and European football. All for a fraction of the price of cable and the hundreds of unwatchable channels.

True indeed. I feel YouTube is slowly taking that path now as well. At least the commercial ads are way shorter but who knows eventually in a few years what things will be like.

Oh, I guess I have avoided the ads through already paying for the Google Play music service. Youtube is very enjoyable without ads.

Oh ok nice, yup the way they used to be when they first started out haha, cheers!
