Why NOT Vote for President?
by Duncan Cary Palmer
Why vote for anyone?
"Good question, Brother!"
A friend and Christian brother of mine raised a question today on our Church Men's Chat Group:
"Why not Vivek for president? Let’s hear your Biblical reasons, gents?"
This was, of course, a challenge I could not ignore...
Rejecting the King (source)
Here's how I responded:
Good questions, Brother.🙏🏻😁 Here, for your reading and contemplating enjoyment, are my Biblical reasons "why not," and not only not for Vivek, but not for any other as well:
"For the Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver;
the Lord is our king; he will save us."
- Isaiah 33:22
We already HAVE a King; our Lord Jesus. We should cease being like the stubborn Israelites:
"And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.""
- 1 Samuel 8:7
Why are we rejecting Jesus as King?
Add to those Scriptures all the times in Scripture where you hear "Jesus is LORD" and take note of this fact:
When the apostles and other Christ-followers said "Jesus is LORD" what they were emphatically asserting is that "Caesar is NOT." That is why the early church was so powerfully persecuted.
Choosing (electing) a national leader is de-facto rejecting Christ as King and LORD over us. Let's quit that nonsense!
We have a Kingdom of our own,
and it's a kingdom that will never be destroyed. King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream; God gave Daniel the interpretation of that dream:
"As you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth."
...
"And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever."
- Daniel 2:34-35, 44
John Baptizer and then Jesus came proclaiming the Good News of that endless Kingdom. (Matthew 3:1-3, 4:17)
Please hear what Peter says about the stone seen in Daniel:
"For it stands in Scripture:
“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,
"The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”and
“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."
- 1 Peter 2:6-10
WE are a "holy nation" and we already HAVE a King. Why do we disobey the word and reject our King?
Meditate on 1 Timothy 6:13-16:
"I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen."
Who is our Lord Jesus Christ ("Christ" means "Anointed King")? He is the "blessed and ONLY Sovereign." What was this "good confession" that Jesus made before Pilate? "Jesus answered, 'My kingdom is not of this world.'" - John 18:36
We have been given and placed in a Kingdom that is "not of this world." We don't bow to earthly leaders. To JESUS ALONE belong honor and eternal dominion. Mere mortals need not apply. They are all usurpers and pretenders. Christ alone is the ONLY Shiloh, the ONLY human with the right to rule.
Now, please give me your Biblical reasons for WHY Vivek (or anyone else) for president?🙏🏻😁
How about you, Dear Reader?
Do you have Biblically valid reasons for wanting someone (other than Jesus) ruling over you?
