Hey my friend, i have to say i agree with you that we all hate the propaganda. But the TV is not the cause of the propaganda. The TV is used as a tool by the Bad people to spread the propaganda. Don't blame the TV. Its the same with guns. Guns don't shoot people, people shoot people. The crazy person who shoots a poor store owner to take his money is the problem, he just uses the gun to do his dirty work. Guns also save lives if you really think about it. Say you were approached by some guys who hold a knife up and say they will kill you if you dont give them your money. Would you be happy if you had a gun to hold up and see them run away? The gun just saved you.
Put it this way, if you pass a law to ban all guns, then you surely must ban all cars and trucks too. I can get into my car and drive to a busy street or shopping mall and i can run over and kill 20 or 30 people no trouble. Yes, i would be crazy, and i would deserve to be shot by a policeman or someone else with a gun for being a murderer. I would say that the gun might have saved more lives in this example, especially if i had been allowed to continue running people over.
I can go on with more of this, but i think you get the point. I'm not here to lecture anybody, I'm here to learn and i have plenty of learning to do, but i also like to help people on alternative ways to think about things. Propaganda is a powerful tool used by bad people. We have to be careful it does not stay lurking in our mind and make us think in ways that play into the hands of the bad people who spread the propaganda. Stay safe !
Normally I agree, it's not the tool but the perpetrator. But with the TV it's different.
In this case it's the TV itself that is the problem. Because the TV can only be used to broadcast "special interest" propaganda.
There is no way an average guy can setup his TV station, for one the regulation already prohibits it, and for two it's too costly.
So only a government or a big corporation can afford to run a full TV channel. Therefore, you will only hear their opinions, and dissent will never be allowed.
Yeah try calling into a talkshow and talk about taxes and police brutality, you will imediately be cutoff.
It is a weapon of mass deception, that is the only role of the TV.
Ah, yes, but what are your thoughts about the Internet, Can't this also be used by the same people to spread their special interest propaganda too ?? With TV, radio or the Internet, we have the freedom to choose the channel or website to avoid any Bullshit we don't like or don't agree with. The internet has the same capacity as TV to spread propaganda,in fact it is actually worse in some ways. I can look up Child Porn, Snuff movies, all sorts of other sick stuff if i really want to ( and i don't of course). At least TV channels are regulated to disallow this type of content. I don't have much time to watch TV, but i really like a to watch a few comedy shows and watch the Football. I know when i'm listening and watching Propaganda on the news, so if i see that stuff, i just switch channels. If every channel on the TV was propaganda and i had no choice to avoid it, i would throw the TV away. But there's plenty of channels for me to choose from. Or sit down my computer to see what i can do on Steemit.
Did i tell you about my idea with Television ? When the kids get fat and lazy watching too much television, get a "Smellivision" instead. You can program it so that after 1 hour, it releases a bad smell into the room, like a rotten egg fart. The kids then have to get up and do something else like go and play or go for a walk.
You either accept freedom (decentralization) or you accept slavery (centralization).
While it is true that centralized, regulated, filtered, platfrorms like the TV can be used to shield us from bad things.
However history tells us that the government uses it's power EVERY SINGLE TIME to control people and NOT to empower them.
Therefore every centralized system "regulated" by the government, will be used against you, EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Some while the risks of decentralized information are there, like the bad things that happen on the dark net, the benefits of the technology overweight the faults.
Just by having the freedom to research things and cross-verify information is absolutely crucial in order to be an informed person.
Switching channels between TV is not exactly what I would call research.
Hi mate, i understand that we don't neccesarily have to agree on everything. Even the most harmonious communities have "debates" on certain topics, that's quite normal. I know one thing for sure, we both agree on many more things that we disagree on, and most likely this is why we're both here on Steemit. We should not let a few little things distract us from our common goal.
Freedom, free markets, an honest monetary system and a better world is what we all want. Lets work together for that. Cheers.
