Do Europeans understand Americans
I am not so sure, as an Irish/English person not living in New York, they do some very strange things and have some odd beliefs. I no doubt will get a flurry of Americans replying but that's the point of the post, Maybe us Europeans will have other questions.
- Whats with the guns? for us it seems to be based on the fear of the other, so much so you must be armed to the teeth with Sub-Machine guns just in case the invader has a catapult. We in Europe prefer not to become an one man armed state, for us we look at it as an arms race where nobody wins and everybody in 100m are all dead,
- Medical this subject will possibly cover other areas of social policy, why is it seen as communist the very idea of providing care for all without the fear of becoming bankrupted and dying in pain, I have met some american doctors who actually like the Idea of the NHS that we have in the UK. We have a saying that a civilised society is judge on how it cares for its poorest people.
- Tax, if there is one certainty in Life it's death and taxes which is a quote as old as the Romans, tax helps to provide schools civic services and infrastructure that makes cities great. Chicago and many other cities as the large companies deserted the place nothing is done to replace the run down buildings.
I think I will leave this debate as this for a moment and may come back, I would just like to see other view.
