Tunisia was the first middle-Eastern country where the protests of Arab spring began. The initial protests were held in Tunisia on 17 December, 2010 & then spread out to the whole region. The protests wave led to the ousting of then president Zine el Abidine ben Ali in 14 January 2011. Tunisia was only country where protests resulted in democratic success story & free elections were held after the ousting of ex-president through revolution, but this only democratic model of the outcome of Arab spring failed. After Tunisian revolution, 9 governments of Tunisia tried one after another to tackle country's increasing economic problems but failed badly.
New protests wave began after the new financial act to raise taxes, passed in Tunisia. It's also the seventh anniversary of ousting the longtime ex-president of Tunisia Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Protests have been started recently in the first week of January 2018. Tunisian opposition called for 14 January mass protests but people started the protests almost one week ago & clashes between security forces & protesters were reported in 8 January. More than 100 police men & officers have been wounded & approx. 100 security vehicles were damaged till now & also the hundreds of protesters get injuries in violent clashes. Security forces arrested more than 770 protesters in recent days & at least one protester was killed after police car ran over him. Now, Tunisian government has planned & announced new social reforms package of worth seventy millions dollar. Thousands of troops have been deployed to government buildings in main Tunisian cities because more bigger protests are expected in coming days.
