With mixed emotions.
Those who like his legacy:
- He jumpstarted the economic growth engine to make Korea what it is today
- Without him we would not have the industries that fuel our economy today
- The wealth that got generated allows on average, for most Koreans to enjoy a much better standard of living
Those who hate his legacy:
- He is responsible for much of the social imbalances that came along with a corporation-driven economic development of Korea
- He fostered the chaebol domination of our economy, stifling entrepreneurship and the true spirit of free enterprise
- The chaebol/corporation focused culture that resulted from his policies stifles innovation and creativity and independent thinking
- He distorted Korean politics and delayed democracy in the nation, and we are suffering through the consequences even today
Good points but.... still amazing how it was done!
